This report examines consumption of copyright-infringing content in the 27 EU Member States and the UK, for TV programmes, music and film, using a variety of desktop and mobile access methods, including streaming, downloading, torrents and ripping software. It is an update of the first such report, published in 2019.
EUIPO lists in its press release some of the study’s main findings:
• Despite a temporary increase during the first months of the pandemic, overall piracy declined by 34 % in 2020
• The most frequently pirated content is TV, followed by film and music
• Access to pirated content in the EU halved between 2017 and 2020, with differences among Member States
• Streaming is the most used access method
